SHOPPING LIST

Why does the shopping list come to over R1,500?

When I add estimated costs to the shopping list, it is for every single ingredient that you would need to create the recipes. You very likely have a lot of those ingredients at home already, eg; oil, onions, potatoes, pasta, dry spices, etc.

Once you mark off the items you already have, your weekly cost will probably be less than R1,500.

I don’t eat certain proteins (eg, beef or pork), so what should I do?

This is not a problem at all!

Simply swap out the protein for one that you do eat. Pork can be changed to chicken and beef to lamb in almost every recipe. Make the recipes work for you.

Will this work for a family of 5+?

Absolutely, it will just take a bit of tweaking.

The meal plan and shopping list are based on a family of four (2 adults and 2 children). You will need to increase or decrease the ingredients in the recipes and shopping list to fit your family’s needs.

Where should I shop?

You can shop wherever you like!

Just remember that not all shops are priced the same. So a full basket shop at Woolworths will likely come to a lot more than a full basket shop at Checkers.

I prefer to split my shopping between Checkers and Woolworths with the occasional stop at Spar for eggs. Do what is the most convenient for you.

How do I avoid buying unnecessary items?

My best tip for this is to shop online.

You can keep a running track of your total spend before checking out. This way you can substitute ingredients or remove items that you don’t actually before paying.

If you have to go into a store - take your list! Avoid all those big red SALE signs and buy only what you went in to get. Kudos to you if you can do this because it’s something I really struggle with!

What about breakfast options?

This meal plan includes ingredients for breakfast. Check out this video for some breakfast ideas that fit within the meal plan.

What about lunch options?

I try to work with a ‘Cook Once, Eat Twice’ method where leftovers from supper are used for lunch. One the days when the dinner had no leftovers, I usually dig into the ‘Extras’ that I bought for the week.

What are ‘Extras’

Extras are the items that we need during the week that don’t involve dinner. It’s the fruit, milk, bread, frozen chicken strips for lunch etc.

MEAL PLAN

Do I need to follow the meals in order?

Short answer: No, you don’t.

Long answer: You should plan the meals based on which vegetables will go bad first. That way you’re not wasting any ingredients and throwing away those mushrooms that are no slimy at the end of the week.

Are the meals child-friendly?

Absolutely!

I cook these meals for my own family. I understand that not all kids like spicy food (mine definitely don’t) so all the meals

Do you have any other meal options? Eg, Healthy Meals, Vegetarian, etc.?

Not at the moment but if there is a demand for this then I will be happy to look into it.

Do you deliver the meals?

We do not. We do however provide you with the grocery list, meal plan and recipes for you to create the magic in your own kitchen.

RECIPES

What if I don’t have a pressure cooker or air fryer?

An oven will work just as well but will just take a little bit longer.

I don’t have all the spices needed, can I still make the meal?

The Staples List that you received with your Welcome Email had a list of all the spices that you would need to create the recipes. If you don’t have the spice though then don’t stress, substitute it for something similar or a spice that you love.

The website says R59, why was I charged R236?

The Website is correct, the meal plan is R59 a week but you pay monthly. So the R236 is the cost for a month's worth of meal plans. Remember, This is the launch price. If you purchase it at this price during our promo period then you lock in the price for you.

When does the "month" begin?

While we say "monthly", it's dependent on when you sign up. e.g. If you sign up on the 12th of the month, your month will run from the 12th the the 11th of the next month. This is called your billing cycle.
